President’s Message

December 2015

Dear Society Members,

It was wonderful seeing so many of you at the annual Academy Wills Eye Alumni Society reception last month in Las Vegas. Many thanks to Susan Umfer, our Society Executive Director, for a great job in organizing the Academy event. We had a great turnout and those in attendance had a chance to enjoy the very moving tribute video from the recent Eyeball honoring the Shields and Wills Oncology Service. In conjunction with the Eyeball was a fantastic 2-day combined Retina-Oncology academic program commemorating the 40th anniversary of the Oncology Service. Many ex-Wills Oncology and Retina fellows came in from all over the world to take part in the celebration, another very memorable Wills gathering.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Joanna Fisher for her two years of strong leadership as President and the Board for all their hard work and devotion to Wills and the Society. Susan Umfer has been working tirelessly on many Society developments including our new website. Please visit us as www.willsalumni.org for a glimpse at some of the many activities at Wills that the Society supports. On the website, you will have the opportunity to update your contact information, share your achievements, link to the Wills Knowledge Portal, pay your dues or make donations.

As President of the Society I wish to thank all of you for your membership and support. Contributions to the Society, which come in many forms, directly benefit the Wills residency program and fellowships, now more than ever before. I hope you remember what the Society did for you while training at Wills. It is the generosity of the alumni that enhances the education and training of tomorrow’s ophthalmologists and the mission of Wills is to remain the very best in this process for which the Society plays an ever expanding and influential role. I hope you continue to support the Society which stood behind many generations of past residents and fellows in order to continue to have the resources available to support future generations.

I wish all of you a Happy Holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year. I look forward to seeing many of you at the annual Wills Eye Conference in March 10-12, 2016.
Best regards,

Carl D. Regillo, MD (Class of 1992), President
