Wills Alumni Society Names Sunir Garg, MD, FACS as Annual Conference Chair

We are pleased to announce that Sunir J. Garg, MD, FACS will be the new Conference Chair of the Annual Wills Conference.

Dr. Garg, an outstanding academician and board-certified ophthalmologist, is a member of the Retina Service at Wills Eye Hospital and a Professor of Ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University.

Dr. Garg is actively involved in treating patients and conducting clinical trials for conditions including diabetic retinopathy, age-related macular degeneration, complex retinal detachments, retinal vascular diseases, retinal degenerations, surgical diseases of the macula and retina, and ocular inflammation.

He is editor of ophthalmology for the Merck Manual, Retina Committee Chair for the American Academy of Ophthalmology ONE Network and is Editor-in-Chief for Retina Times, the official publication of the American Society of Retina Specialists. Dr. Garg has authored over 300 papers, articles, and book chapters, and serves as a manuscript reviewer for a number of peer-reviewed journals.

Dr. Garg received both his Bachelor of Science with Honors and Doctor of Medicine degrees from the University of Michigan and completed his Ophthalmology residency at the University of Michigan where he was appointed Chief Resident. During his residency, he was voted Teacher of the Year and also received the LaBerge award for research excellence.

Dr. Garg attended Wills Eye Hospital for his retina fellowship, followed by an appointment as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Washington University in St. Louis. He subsequently returned to Philadelphia to join Wills Eye Hospital.
